Despite a wet start, the weather cleared and camping turned out to be a lovely four days! Thanks to everyone who came out and chipped in for setup, packing and meals. We enjoyed a few good walks too! Tentative for 2025: Long Point Provincial Park.

Weekly Walks
The forecast is iffy. Depending where you look, there is some likelyhood the rain might taper off and stop by the time we head out. Sunday is similar so this might be a case of rainwear+dedication, or we simply meet for coffee. 🤞🏻
A double celebration weeks coming up: Sharon on Sunday and Norma on Wednesday. Let’s send them best wishes!
Thank You Paul and Lou-Ann!
It was a perfect pool party day: sunshine, good convo, bevvies and food aplenty! Our thanks to Lou-Ann and Paul for opening their home to us and to everyone for their potluck contributions. Always the highlight of the summer for the Shore Things!
Weekly Walks
Saturday will be hot in the afternoon but bearable in the morning. The good news is that it appears it will be overcast which will help. Let’s meet at the usual and perhaps retreat to the indoors post walk for coffee and such.

Taylor Creek Park never ceases to produce interesting animal diversions.

Weekly Walks & Pool Party
It’s on track to be a splendid morning for a walk Saturday, and to work up some banked negative calories for the spread at the pool party that afternoon. If you haven’t rsvp’d to Lou-Ann, please take a moment. Remember to bring a lawn chair.
In the aftermath of Tuesday’s deluge, a group of us went down into Taylor Creek Park to see how the new river works held up to all that rain. It seems that overall, the effort paid off but still, there were many indications of the power of flowing water. Pictures below tell the story.

It’s back to dry conditions on Saturday. L@8! Boardwalk or Spit?
Happy Birthday Laura
This coming Sunday (correction from initial post) will mark Laura’s birthday. Sending her best wishes in advance!
Looking back over the blog posts, it’s been a while since the date was first announced (back in April it seems), so if you missed that post or forgot to jot down the date, it’s Saturday, July 27 from 2:00 on. rain date is Sunday the 28th. Pot luck as usual. You could post what you’re bringing on WhatsApp, but based on past years, it always seems to work out.
Weekly Walks
Hopefully we will once again have a great reunion like this past weekend. It was great to see walkers who haven’t been able to join the Saturday L@8 gang for a while. Since it looks very promising for this week, maybe we can push that number even higher?
L@8!Some people we haven’t seen walking together for a while. So glad you’re back!
Wednesday is Leverne’s special day, and Thursday is Marie’s so let’s wish them Happy Birthday and Bon Anniversaire!
Island Walk
The “Lakes Eleven” made it over to the Toronto Islands for a fresher-than-mainland walk. Back on the city side, it was followed by a lovely meal at Irene Restaurant lakefront behind the CORUS building.
We’re hoping to do this again later this summer or early fall.

Weekly Walks
So far, there’s a low probability of rain Saturday morning, so no excuses, right?! L@8 with coffee post walk.
Sending advance good wishes to Arlene this coming Wednesday. Her day is flanked by two national celebrations (🇨🇦 on Monday and 🇺🇸 on Thursday). Maybe she should get a flag too?
Also, apologies to Cheryl who had a birthday on Thursday July 4. Missed that one when originally writing this post.
Island Walk
After rigorous polling, it looks like we’ve settled on Thursday July 4. We hope to catch the 6pm ferry to Hanlan’s Point and walk to Ward’s Island, from whence we will return. For those hoping for post walk refreshments and snacks, perhaps Irene’s near the foot of Jarvis? Please sign in to let me know as we may need to reserve.
All sighted in Taylor Creek Park during a weekday walk. More on that location below!
Trail Renovation
Construction is not only a feature of roads in the city, parklands are also getting an uplift. After months of work shoring up and redirecting Taylor Creek down from Stan Wadlow Park, that section of trail is finally reopened with an expanded section on the north side of the creek. Everything still has that new mulch smell.
Island Walk
It seems that every summer, we try to organize a weekday evening walk on Toronto Islands, and this year should be no exception. If the Bloorview race is not your thing, then a stroll and subsequent refreshment might be more up your alley. Dates might be tricky to coordinate as people have plans, don’t you know. Still, let us try. I will post a link on WhatsApp to the Doodle poll. Please indicate all available dates for yourself and we will try to pick a date that works for everyone, or at least the greatest number.
Weekly Walks
The not-always-accurate weather people are calling for an end to the heat dome by the end of this week, so Saturday morning should be pleasant, IF the rain doesn’t come. Unclear at this time where that’s heading. L@8!
Alles Gute zum Geburtstag to Rainer who celebrates this coming Wednesday.

On the Trails
Here are a few pics of people and places on recent walks. the last 3 pictures are from Hamilton. Some of us may go back for a weekday walk/ excursion. Keep checking on WhatsApp for news on that.
Say What? Race?
While races may have fallen out of favour, this event may merit consideration as the location is great, the cause worthy, and the distance manageable.
There are a few days left to register for the SuperPower 5K | 10K before prices increase in 3 days ($60 and $65). The event takes place on Toronto Island, on August 24th.
Proceeds go to support Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
Can we hope to see a good turnout this Saturday at L@8? It’s a good way to start the Father’s Day weekend! Conditions seem ideal—not too hot and sunny so don’t forget your sunglasses.
