Walks Saturday April 15 to Friday April 21

This is not the dreaded orange dot. Although if you squint….

Weekly Walks

Saturday will be lovely for a walk, and no excuse (except if one is isolating 😖. Loblaw’s at 8, direction tbd.

WhatsApp Changes

For the sake of clarity and efficiency, it has been suggested to rename the Shore Things Lite WhatsApp group to “Weekly Walks” and purpose it specifically for coordinating who, when and where for walks excluding Saturdays. That is essentially what it’s been used for anyway but this would make it official. The group is of course open to all Shore Things. Let Jan know to add you in if you are not already.

The original Shore Things group would remain and dedicated to more social interchanges, birthday wishes, announcements, and any news that should reach everyone.

Let us know what you think.

  1. I will not be out this Saturday, some errands to do and have several appointments this week I want to make sure I can attend…as I was one at Kim’s Monday. Agreed, when will this go away… I think this will be life now. I want to make sure I am good this week, so being a little cautious.

  2. Given Helen’s diagnosis and her contact with many of the group last Monday, I think I’ll be cautious and skip Saturday’s walk. I hope everyone keeps well and that Helen recovers quickly.

Some day this too shall pass – but it seems to be taking a very long time.

  3. I think there are way too many Shore Thing Groups. There is the FB Shore Thing group which isn’t used. There is the WhatsApp group. There are emails going back and forth. There is the Blog which is meant to coordinate walks. I don’t understand why another WhatsApp is required. Seems to me this is communication overload. Norma

    • Thanks for the feedback. Agreed that things are scattered hence the thinking behind this. Each method has its pros and cons. The blog messages are centralized but not private and some users are having problems posting messages. Not everyone is on WhatsApp, and for those who are, it’s sometimes confusing to follow a thread when multiple conversations happen (walk planning overlapping with birthday wishes for instance). The second WhatsApp group already exists. It’s a rebranding that is considered. There is also the Google Group that emails messages. Time for a spring cleaning. I’ll try to find something that works for everyone. Suggestions welcome.

    • I agree with Norma’s comment. I don’t understand the need for 3 (at a minimum) group forums for communicating. I thought the blog was the main place to organize our walks – location, time – regardless of which day it is held on. Why have two? Streamlining for the ease of communication – an excellent and inclusive goal.

      • Background: In principal the blog is better for walk organization, although one has to be careful with information as the website is open so anyone can read it, not just Shore Things. The WhatsApp group emerged partly due to the pandemic as the group went into pods, and partly because there were technical issues with people trying to post and having trouble with login prompts and approvals, thus causing delays in communication. WhatsApp had the benefit of privacy, reliability and speed.
