Walks Saturday October 28 to Friday November 3

That’s a lot of pie in the making.

Birthdays

Shore-Thing-at-large Stacey celebrates her birthday this Saturday. Hope we can organize another visit to PEC soon to catch up in person. The. It’s David who has his special day next week on Friday. Be on the lookout for him (and Norma) on the Boardwalk to wish him the best.

Creature Feature

Nature has been glorious this past week. Not only were the colours astonishing (see next section), but we’ve seen critters not often glimpsed in our usual haunts. A recent walk along Highland Creek featured 4-legged AND finned denizens (not in the same animal). See for yourselves…

Weekly Walks

Consensus is that Saturday will be a good day to walk. So let’s walk! It will be back at Loblaw’s at 8:00.

So what else is new?

Given some rather positive walks this past month on less often frequented paths during the week, there is appetite to do that as often as possible.

So far, we’ve done Bluffer’s Park, Highland Creek/Waterfront Trail, and the Brickworks (albeit on a Saturday). We will try to post locations and days for more like this, but weather may require last minute changes so please check back often, particularly in the comments and on WhatsApp. If you are still not on the WA, get in touch with Barbara for the main group, and Jan for the “lite” group to be added.

Tentatively, we are considering the Meadoway for this coming Tuesday at 8. TBC.

Offsite Walk This Weekend

Good news: I have booked a table for post walk brunch at Boca Brunch, on Cosburn Avenue at Derwyn Road for 10:30. There is parking on Cosburn and on the side streets. For those wishing to carpool, an option is convening at Earl Haig PS parking lot and leave by 7:40 for Rosedale where we will park in the neighborhood of Craigleigh Gardens. Let everyone know in the comments if that works for you so we have enough vehicles.

BOCA’s offerings.

Bad news: at the time of writing, the weather forecast (depending on the app) is calling for rain Saturday, but light (1 mm). Options are deferring a week (hoping it won’t be the same again AND we still have fall colour), or grinning and bearing it, dressing appropriately and getting ‘er done. Option 3 is of course just passing on it entirely. Option 4 is to wait and see.

This might help you decide. Thanks to Susan for the link!

Salmon Celebration in the Don. The actual event was October 5 but the Salmon may still be at it.

Happy birthday and isten éltessen sokáig!to Val on Tuesday!

Offsite Update October 14

We will gather in Rosedale near Craigleigh Gardens walking down Milkman’s Lane and north to the Brickworks. Parking is free but on street so could be limited. Carpool perhaps? Post walk brunch location tbd but Eggsmart on O’Connor and Donlands is a possibility, as is the New Yorker Café at Broadview and Danforth. Both have parking challenges, the former has a small lot so best to park on nearby streets, the latter is on a construction site. BOCA Brunch, on the formers Paul’s Spaghetti House location on Cosburn, is also on the radar but not yet vetted for a group our size. We will try to scout these locations this week and confirm on the next blog.

On the patio after our Tuesday walk…

Weekly Walks

After summer-like conditions this week, temperatures appear to be returning to seasonal norms this Saturday (8 at Loblaw’s of course). Still sunny for morning so it will be a good chance to gather for walking and coffee, and give thanks for being part of such a great group.

No word yet on a Monday morning walk, but going by what’s been done before, it will likely be at 9 from Tim’s 2.

Walks Saturday September 30 to Friday October 6

Offsite Walk Update

It seems that Saturday October 14 is the date that suits the most people as some of us may be away for or deep into Thanksgiving prep. We will walk from Rosedale, starting near Craigleih Gardens down (very down) Milkman’s Lane and up the trail to the Brickworks, and beyond for those wanting the distance. Brunch afterwards is tbc. Suggestions are welcome.

Annual ShoreThings Potluck Party

Just a bit of notice that our annual gathering will take place on November 11 (easy to “remember”, right?), and again at Trish’s condo. Details to follow but mark your calendar, unless you have an official ShoreThings calendar, in which case it’s already there for you!

Speaking of which, Helen would love to get any special pictures to include in the 2024 edition so them her way, and let her know if you’d like to order one as well!

Weekly Walks

Another gorgeous Fall day in the offing so for let’s gather as we do for a fine walk and coffee afterward at Loblaw’s at 8. Picnic tabling may still be possible. Let’s enjoy every minute we can before forced indoors.

Walks Saturday September 23 to Friday September 29

Happy Birthday Wishes

This Thursday is Helen’s birthday! Let’s all send her our best wishes.

Offsite Walks

There appears to be interest in walking in the Brickworks area to catch Fall colours – yes it will be when we next walk. It could be October 7, Thanksgiving weekend, but if that is too busy a time, then the following Saturday perhaps?

Starting points could be:

  • Rosedale near Craigleigh Gardens walking down Milkman’s Lane and north to the Brickworks. Pros: free parking on the street. Cons: big hill, need to drive somewhere for brunch at return if that is desired
  • The Brickworks going north or south (tbd). Pros: choice of route, place to eat at end on site. Cons: paid parking, can be very busy.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments or WhatsApp.

Weekly Walks

Saturday looks good so let’s see all of you out! Loblaw’s at 8!

Walks Saturday September 16 to Friday September 22

Birthday!

Best wishes to Niki who celebrates her special day this coming Thursday! HBTY!

Weekly Walks

Saturday starts off cool but will warm up nicely by mid day. Think layers. We meet at our usual time and place. Post walk gather could still be the picnic table if the air warms up enough and the wasps aren’t out in full force.

Offsite for Fall Colours

Time to start thinking of a good spot that would feature lots of Autumn foliage. Suggestions welcome either in the comments or in person in the next week. Results will be posted and a date confirmed as soon as we have options or consensus.

Walks Saturday September 9 to Friday September 15

Weekly Walks

By the time this post is published, the wandering group pictured below will be back in town, and we look forward to sharing our experiences with fellow walkers on Saturday morning from Loblaw’s. The usual time of course. The weather looks great too. Can’t say we’re sorry to have missed the Toronto heat wave.

Birthdays

Happy birthday to Alexis today (publication day Friday). We’d love to see you back on the trails, anytime! Best wishes as well to Margie and Denise whose special day is this coming Wednesday.

Walks Saturday September 2 to Friday September 8

Birthday!

Alexis is celebrating her birthday next Friday the 8th, so let’s send her our best. Hope to see you back on the walks soon, Alexis!

A few low-lying critters this week…

We Came, We Saw, We Splashed

Apologies to JC for usurping his catchphrase, but that is what happened, after a initially anxious but in-the-end quite sound deferral to Sunday for the pool party. A super turnout, and plenty of pictures for the next calendar. The food was superb too! Super thanks to Paul and Lou-Ann for hosting the Shorethings official highlight of the summer!

Weekly Walks

Saturday will be hot, but tolerable in the morning, so Loblaw’s at 8 as usual. A group is away, but perhaps that means great pics to post for next week’s blog.

Walks Saturday August 26 to Friday September1

Birthdays

Charlotte and Eileen share a birthday this coming Monday so let’s all send them our best wishes for a “funtastic” day!

Pool Party

Yes, it’s still on for Saturday August 26 starting at 2:00 at a “secret location”, well secret only if you haven’t checked your email or WhatsApp. 😉

Paul and Lou-Ann are watching the weather carefully so please check back in case the possible thunderstorm materializes.

The rain date is Sunday the 27th.

If you haven’t done so yet, please confirm with Lou-Ann by email if you’re attending (for Saturday and in case of raindate, Sunday) so she can be prepared for numbers. Bringing your own chair is recommended; potluck and BYOB, the uge (it’s what the kids say, right?).

Weekly Walks

Saturday morning pre-party walk is still on for, at the other uge. Good chance to compare potluck offerings before the fact and discover EVERYONE is bringing potato salad.
